Like they taught us in journalism school, "if it bleeds, it leads." Anything that evokes strong emotional reactions, especially negative ones, tends to pull people into strong but impulsive and stupid actions. You don't have to look far at all to find examples of this happening all over the place, particularly in the West. Even outside of X-Twitter and TikTok, one of the most rage-inducing things you can do is mention one of the words 'Jew,' 'Israel,' or 'Zionist.' Not even the Toronto Pride Parade can get away from the protesters, it seems, who just like they shut down sections of campuses in America and Canada, shut down Yonge St and a section of the parade. I would love some good news, about people's accomplishments, instead of tragedy, however I also understand "if it bleeds, it leads." Influencers using rage for engagement doesn't bother me quite so much, in and of itself: It's people's choice if they react and engage. What bothers me is when these influencers use other people for engagement, especially if they trigger hate against another person, and most especially if they use the other person's material, out of context, to do it. Would it be justice if the original creator took the thief to court, I wonder? Can that even be done? And is my being upset a form of being rage-baited? Maybe the best response to such baiting is a non-response, but then you'd have to convince those who normally do engage and give money not to. There're other groups in the world it might be easier to convince to take alternative action. This is the kind of place we live in now.

I dont think "fat acceptance" is a bad movement in terms of being acknowledge by society and not marginalized, just like people with drugs addictions should also be taken into consideration. If people with this problems, because a person with obesity does have a problem, are marginalized, it closes the window for these people to get help. What I dont agree, and actually find it harmful, is promoting obesity like a "normal" lifestyle. Imagine someone romatizing smoking. Everyone would hate them. Nevertheless, I actually think fat acceptance has actually some good points. For people to want to get help, they need to care for themselves, they need to love themselves. Just like we need people talking about how they deal with addictions, in order for others with similar issues to understand that they can change and they can enjoy life, the same goes with people with obesity. We should not judge, but understand, accept, and help. Judging never helpped anyone.

As a teacher, I hate that terms suspension and expelled are being used to describe a terminated enrollment. Terminated enrollment wouldn’t reflect on the student for me.

I've seen this to a lesser extent on adds for games. The gameplay is done so stupid that to get people made and download the game to play.

I make a point of not engaging with rage-bait. It serves no purpose except to provide a brief outlet for emotion. If I find something truly contemptable, I'd want to find and implement a lasting solution, or at least hear other perspectives on the issue (if it's one of those things that won't ever be "solved")

Being intellectually honest here, the AITA example from Reddit that you cited here- she even says in her post that she does not post nude or NSFW content on those platforms, just risque I think that this descriptor might explain why she was so ambivalent. The content is relatively clean (vs PORN) and she is able to maintain the family. I can appreciate the dilemma from her POV if she is able to make 8x more than she ever could through more traditional employment while also maintaining her home. Cognitive dissonance would be obvious add to that the lack of nudity and it just makes sense that she’s conflicted and seeking outside counsel. Kids get bullied for nearly everything. I remember when being Haitian was a slur, or having a parent who worked as a plumber/janitor/etc

i know im pent up all the time because of all this rage bait, the thing that really scares me though is that i've been this way for a VERY long time and idk how to vent everything. Weed used to help but i cant use that all the time because its effects dont exactly cooperate with me and i dont want to get addicted to the substance. Theres also the real life effect all this bait has had on the populace at large and the stress of worrying wether or not the person your interacting with at any given time is going to pop off or not. All in all im not sure what answers or what path forward im looking for here and its absolutely terrifying.

I'm fat. I used to be fit and muscular but I have a disorder of the connective tissues, and liver problens which made me suddenly sedentary and I put on a lot of weight. My wife is fat. She has polycystic ovary disease and a thyroid imbalance which made her pile on weight. My friend is horrifically morbidly obese because she had emotional problems from being sexually abused as a child. I don't judge or hate fat people, I know many people are struggling with metabolic syndrome, other diseases and emotional problems, and not all of us are just lazy gluttons. And my mother (also abused) became severely anorexic and almost died, so I know being fat isn't the worst thing in the world. And finally, I think that some beauty and health standards are unrealistic. Having said all that, and with probably more empathy and understanding for overweight people than others here have, glorifying obesity as some kind of neo-Marxist social engineering tool designed to destroy society is about as evil as it gets. Obesity isn't a quirky alternative lifestyle, or a sexy new look, it's a debilitating symptom and cause of horrible health problems, it stops you enjoying life. It isn't just about aesthetics, it's about the ability to do the things you enjoy and ultimately about being free.
